The Ultimate Sunday Reset for You and Your Dog

The Ultimate Sunday Reset for You and Your Dog

Sundays are for slow mornings, fluffy robes, and pretending Monday doesn’t exist — and honestly, your dog is so on board with that vibe.

If you’re a fan of the “Sunday reset” — a little bit of tidying, a touch of self-care, and a whole lot of couch time — why not let your dog join in the ritual? After all, they’ve been your loyal sidekick all week. They deserve a reset too.

Here’s how to turn your Sunday into a calm, cosy, tail-wagging routine that benefits both of you — body, mind, and belly included.

1. Sleep In (No Guilt!)

First things first: ditch the alarm. Your dog may wake up at sunrise for their morning stretch and sniff, but they’re also absolute pros at snuggling under the doona for a lie-in. Let the day start slow. A few extra zzz’s (or lazy cuddles in bed) set the tone for a more relaxed day — and dogs pick up on your energy, so your calm = their calm.

2. A Gentle Walk With Purpose

No need for a high-energy hike. A quiet, mindful stroll is perfect. Let your dog take the lead (literally) and stop for extra sniffs. These “sniffaris” are underrated when it comes to mental stimulation — plus, they give you a chance to stretch your legs and breathe deeply, without the rush.

Bring a warm drink in a keep-cup if you're feeling fancy. Sunday wellness, sorted.

3. Reset the Space

A tidy house just feels better — for both of you. Give your dog’s bedding a quick wash, refill the water bowl with fresh water, and clear out any half-chewed toys lurking under the couch. Bonus points if you give their food mat a wipe-down or prep a few enrichment activities for the week ahead.

You know that satisfying feeling of resetting your kitchen for Monday? Same goes for your dog’s feeding zone.

4. Feed Well, Feel Well

Just like you might opt for a nourishing smoothie bowl or a slow-cooked roast on a Sunday, your dog deserves something just as satisfying. A warm, gently cooked meal made with real ingredients — the kind that smells like actual food and gets that tail thumping before the bowl hits the floor — is the canine equivalent of comfort food that fuels them right.

There’s something extra lovely about serving your pup a healthy, balanced dish that doesn’t come from a packet of dusty pellets. It’s a little act of love, and a reminder that their wellness routine matters too.

5. The Double Spa Day

Who says spa time is just for humans? If your dog’s due for a bath, a Sunday is ideal. A gentle wash, a soft towel dry, a little brush to detangle any wild fur — it’s both bonding time and low-key pampering. Pop on a face mask yourself while they air dry and you’ve got yourself a proper glow-up situation for two.

You can even finish it off with a little paw balm or ear clean if your dog’s into that kind of thing (or at least tolerates it with a treat nearby).

6. Settle In With a Treat (Or Two)

Once you’re both clean and calm, it’s time to flop on the couch and just be. Whether that’s binge-watching your favourite show, flipping through a book, or scrolling aimlessly while your dog snoozes beside you, it’s the moment you both decompress.

If your pup’s the type who loves a little snack while you snack, offer something wholesome — maybe a frozen Kong filled earlier or a soft, natural chew. It keeps them occupied while you recharge.

7. Reflect and Reconnect

It might sound cheesy, but taking a moment to reflect on the week — and how much your dog’s been there through it all. They’ve been your walking buddy, your under-desk coworker, your personal cheerleader. A Sunday reset is really just an excuse to acknowledge that and give a little extra back.

One Little Ritual = Big Results

You don’t need a 20-step plan or a Pinterest-perfect doggy spa setup. Just a few intentional moments — a nourishing meal, a calming walk, a fresh bed, a treat shared together — can completely shift how both of you enter the week ahead.

And honestly? Your dog won’t remember the laundry or the inbox waiting on Monday. But they will remember how loved and included they felt on a quiet, beautiful Sunday.
