Dog-Friendly Christmas “Ham” Your Pup Will Love

Dog-Friendly Christmas “Ham” Your Pup Will Love

Christmas is for everyone in the family—including our furry friends! While traditional ham is a no-go for dogs (too salty and seasoned), you can still serve up a festive, meaty treat that looks and tastes just as special.

Here’s a simple dog-friendly “Christmas ham” that’s safe, delicious, and perfect for your pup to join in the holiday fun.

Ingredients:

  • 1 small turkey or chicken leg (skin removed if fatty)

  • 1 small sweet potato, peeled and chopped

  • 1 apple, cored and chopped

  • 1 carrot, chopped

  • 1 tsp olive or coconut oil

  • Tiny pinch of dried rosemary (optional)

  • Tiny pinch of turmeric (optional, for color)

Festive Glaze (optional):

  • 2 tbsp unsweetened apple sauce

  • Tiny pinch of cinnamon

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C / 350°F.

  2. Toss sweet potato, carrot, and apple in oil, and spread around a baking tray.

  3. Rub the turkey/chicken leg with rosemary and turmeric, and place on top of the veggies.

  4. Cover loosely with foil and bake 45–60 minutes, until fully cooked.

  5. Optional: In the last 10 minutes, brush lightly with apple sauce and sprinkle a tiny bit of cinnamon.

  6. Let cool completely before serving to your dog. Slice into bite-sized portions and don't forget to remove any cooked bones!

This festive dish is not only tasty but also makes your pup feel like part of the family celebration.
